King tides expected Nov. 5-11 and Nov. 22-28.
Peak water levels up to 3.7 feet forecast.
Residents advised to prepare for street flooding.

What's Happening

Hallandale Beach, Florida, is preparing for two rounds of king tides this November, with the first occurring from November 5-11 and the second from November 22-28. King tides, the highest tides of the year, are caused by the alignment of the sun, moon, and Earth during new and full moons. The highest water levels in the first round are expected from November 7-9, reaching up to 3.5 feet at Port Everglades. The second round is forecast to peak on November 25, with water levels reaching approximately 3.7 feet. These tides can lead to street flooding in low-lying areas, even on sunny days, as seawater may flow back through storm drains. Heavy rain during this period could exacerbate flooding conditions. Residents are advised to stay informed and take precautions to mitigate potential impacts.

Impact & Risks

Low-lying areas in Hallandale Beach are at risk of street flooding during the king tides. The highest tides could cause seawater to backflow through storm drains, potentially affecting roads, sidewalks, and properties. Heavy rainfall during these periods could worsen flooding, posing risks to vehicles and infrastructure. Residents in flood-prone areas should be particularly cautious, as water levels may rise unexpectedly. The city has urged residents to prepare for these conditions by securing outdoor items, parking vehicles on higher ground, and avoiding flooded streets.

Forecast & Timing

The first round of king tides will occur from November 5-11, with peak water levels of 3.5 feet expected from November 7-9. The second round is forecast from November 22-28, with the highest tide of 3.7 feet anticipated on November 25. Morning high tides will occur between 4:56 a.m. and 10:50 a.m. during these periods. Residents should monitor local updates and tide schedules to stay informed about potential flooding risks.

Guidance & Precautions

Residents should avoid driving through flooded streets, as water depth can be deceptive and dangerous. Park vehicles on higher ground and secure outdoor items to prevent them from floating away. Keep storm drains clear of debris and rinse vehicles after exposure to saltwater to prevent corrosion. Stay informed through city updates and report flooding or blocked drains using HBConnect.
