Wildfire disrupts Florida amid severe drought conditions
A significant wildfire in Florida's Big Cypress National Forest, near Naples, has expanded to over 30,600 acres, causing substantial disruption. Heavy smoke prompted the temporary closure of Interstate 75, specifically along Alligator Alley between Exits 80 and 23, before the highway was reopened early Thursday. This blaze occurs against the backdrop of Florida's most severe drought in 25 years, with an alarming 98% of the state experiencing drought conditions and over 67% classified as being in severe drought—a peak not seen since 2001.
