Wettest summer in ten years, eighth-hottest
Australia recently experienced its wettest summer in almost ten years, alongside its eighth-hottest summer on record, as reported by the Bureau of Meteorology. The 2025-26 season saw rainfall exceeding the average by 32%, marking it as the rainiest period since 2016-17. South Australia was particularly affected, witnessing its fourth-hottest summer, with temperatures peaking at 50°C (122°F) in Andamooka and Port Augusta. February recorded exceptionally high rainfall, with South Australia receiving 356% more precipitation than average, making it the second-wettest since 2011. The summer also brought significant temperature fluctuations, with 62 weather stations reporting their highest-ever daily maximum temperatures between January 26 and 31.
