Climate change worsens wildfire devastation in Europe
Europe is grappling with the aftermath of historic wildfire devastation, a crisis exacerbated by climate change. A recent study by World Weather Attribution has directly linked this summer’s massive wildfires in Turkey, Greece, and Cyprus to the ongoing climate crisis. The study reveals that extreme heat, alarmingly low rainfall, and strong winds combined to make these blazes 22% more intense than they would have been otherwise. The consequences have been catastrophic, with 20 lives lost and approximately 80,000 people displaced from their homes.
