Texas declares disaster for 191 counties
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has declared a disaster for 191 of the state’s 254 counties due to growing wildfire threats. This declaration came after the Texas A&M Forest Service elevated the wildland fire preparedness level to 2 out of 5, indicating an increased risk of wildfires in several regions. The lack of significant rainfall in South and Central Texas, as well as areas near the Red River and Northeast Texas, over the past few weeks has exacerbated the situation. Even the Texas Hill Country, which recently experienced severe flooding, is expected to dry out, further increasing the fire risk.
