Nearly 100 waterspouts reported in Great Lakes
The Great Lakes region experienced an unusual surge in waterspout activity between August 24 and 28, with nearly 100 waterspouts reported across the lakes. According to weather observations, a cool, autumn-like air mass settled over the Great Lakes, creating conditions conducive to the formation of these marine phenomena. Lake Erie was particularly active, recording 49 waterspouts, while Lake Ontario saw 26.
