Amtrak restarts Mobile-New Orleans route after Katrina
Amtrak has officially restored passenger rail service along the Gulf Coast, bridging Mobile, Alabama, and New Orleans after a 20-year hiatus caused by the devastating Hurricane Katrina. The newly launched “Mardi Gras Service” offers twice-daily train routes with fares starting at $15, aiming to revitalize tourism, stimulate job growth, and bolster local economies along the route.
