Heat, low humidity, thunderstorms fuel fire risk
Near-record heat, exceptionally low humidity, and gusty thunderstorms are creating dangerous fire conditions across Colorado. Temperatures are expected to reach the 90s and 100s across the Eastern Plains and Western Slope, with the heat wave continuing. Humidity levels will remain very low as hotter, drier air moves into the region. High-based, dry thunderstorms are expected to develop, producing little rainfall but bringing strong, gusty winds and lightning, increasing the risk of fire ignition and spread.
