Permanent ban due to geological instability
Rancho Palos Verdes, a wealthy coastal city south of Los Angeles, has enacted a permanent ban on new construction within the Portuguese Bend Landslide Complex. This decision comes in response to severe geological instability that has plagued the area for years. Frequent landslides have resulted in the destruction or displacement of approximately 140 homes and have caused significant damage to millions of square feet of coastline.
