Ancient meteorite predates Earth, lands in Georgia
A meteorite that crashed into a Georgia home last June has been confirmed to be billions of years old, predating the Earth itself. The fragment, originating from the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, made its unexpected landing near Atlanta on June 26th. University of Georgia geologist Scott Harris, after examining the site, detailed the meteorite’s dramatic entry. It pierced the roof, navigated through an air duct, tore through insulation, breached the ceiling, and finally landed on the floor, leaving a small crater. The force of the impact was likened to a sledgehammer strike, pulverizing a portion of the rock.
