The storm's sustained winds are nearing 45 mph, and it is moving in a northeast direction at about 12 mph. Forecasters predict that Fernand will accelerate towards the east-northeast, undergoing a transition to a post-tropical cyclone by late Wednesday. The storm is expected to dissipate completely by Thursday night.
