Storm surge more lethal than hurricane winds
When hurricanes make landfall, both storm surge and wind present significant dangers, but storm surge often proves to be the more lethal of the two. Storm surge occurs when the intense winds of a hurricane push seawater inland, leading to the inundation of coastal communities. While high winds can certainly inflict damage on properties, uproot trees, and cause power outages, storm surge has the potential to engulf entire neighborhoods, causing catastrophic destruction.
