Scorching summer, some areas show cooling trend
The contiguous U.S. has faced another scorching summer, with June heatwaves affecting a third of the population and July offering little relief. While overall warming is 1.6°F since 1896, some regions, particularly the central and southeastern states, show a “summer warming hole.” Scientists link this anomaly to rainfall, land use, reforestation, and ocean patterns, though it may not persist as climate change continues.
