1,000th frog released in conservation program
Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in California have welcomed 43 mountain yellow-legged frogs this August, marking the Oakland Zoo’s 1,000th release as part of its dedicated conservation program. These frogs, once critically endangered, face threats such as disease, habitat loss, and the escalating impacts of climate change. Each frog is meticulously tracked using microchips, allowing conservationists to monitor their recovery and understand their adaptation to the environment.
