Seismic activity usual in New York area
Recent small earthquakes that shook the New York metropolitan area highlight that seismic activity does happen in this region, experts say, noting that such events are actually quite usual. Two minor quakes centered in Bergen County, New Jersey, occurred just days apart, per the U.S. Geological Survey. A magnitude 2.7 tremor hit Hillsdale on a Tuesday, followed by a magnitude 3.0 quake northeast of Hasbrouck Heights on the subsequent Saturday. These quakes triggered reactions from surprised residents in the densely populated area, many of whom turned to social media to share their experiences.
