Hurricane Melissa has transformed into a powerful post-tropical cyclone over the northwest Atlantic. As of the latest advisory, the storm is located approximately 520 miles north-northeast of Bermuda and 650 miles southwest of Newfoundland. The system is currently exhibiting sustained winds near 85 mph (140 km/h) and is moving rapidly northeast at 48 mph (77 km/h). Forecasters predict that Melissa will pass southeast of Newfoundland's Avalon Peninsula later tonight.
