Southern Plains face fire risk, snow in North
The National Weather Service has issued red flag warnings across parts of the southern Plains, including eastern Colorado, western Kansas, eastern New Mexico, and the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles. These warnings are due to strong winds and low humidity levels, which significantly increase the risk of rapidly spreading fires. Winds in southwestern Kansas are expected to be sustained at 30 to 40 mph, with gusts reaching up to 65 mph, while the Texas panhandle may experience gusts up to 70 mph. Humidity levels are forecasted to drop as low as 10% in Kansas and around 14% in Texas.
