Florida extends wildfire program to more states
Florida has broadened its wildfire mitigation efforts by extending the Wildfire Prepared program to ten additional high-risk states. Supported by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), the initiative aims to assist homeowners and builders in high-risk zones in lessening wildfire risks. The program provides two designation levels: Wildfire Prepared Home and Wildfire Prepared Home Plus, both involving science-based mitigation steps verified by an external party. Currently, Florida is grappling with widespread drought, with almost 80% of the state experiencing extreme or exceptional drought conditions, raising concerns about an active wildfire season. The National Interagency Fire Center projects an above-normal significant wildfire potential for the state this year.
