Voluntary restrictions start due to dry conditions
Charlotte Water has initiated voluntary water restrictions starting April 20 in response to persistent dry conditions. The Catawba-Wateree River Basin is currently in Stage 1 drought status, prompting the call for reduced water usage. Residents are encouraged to limit outdoor watering to two days per week based on odd/even address schedules: odd-numbered addresses on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and even-numbered addresses on Wednesdays and Sundays. Additionally, watering should be avoided during peak heat hours and limited to one inch per week, including rainfall. These restrictions, reminiscent of those in 2023, aim to proactively manage water resources and prevent the need for more severe mandatory measures if the drought continues.
