Storm and dust create deadly conditions
A severe storm front, compounded by a Saharan dust storm, has struck Greece, resulting in a fatality in Nea Makri near Athens. The convergence of the storm and the Saharan dust turned the skies over Crete a striking blood-red, producing unsettling scenes. The Greek Fire Department has been overwhelmed, attending to around 500 calls involving fallen trees, flooded residences, and rescuing individuals trapped by floodwaters. Power outages have been reported in various Athenian suburbs, and traffic has been severely disrupted due to obstructions from fallen trees and immobilized vehicles.
