Severe tornadoes hit Wisconsin, causing widespread damage
On April 17, 2026, Wisconsin experienced a severe weather outbreak, with at least 13 confirmed tornadoes touching down across the state. These tornadoes, as reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, affected numerous counties including Trempealeau, Jackson, Buffalo, Marathon, Rock, Walworth, Racine, and Waukesha. The most intense of these was an EF3 tornado in Buffalo County, which brought winds of up to 140 mph and caused significant damage to homes, businesses, and local infrastructure. The National Weather Service is still assessing the full extent of the damage and expects to confirm additional tornadoes as surveys progress.
