Cyclone Narelle impacts Pilbara region of Australia
Tropical Cyclone Narelle recently impacted the Pilbara region of Western Australia, causing considerable disruptions to port operations and mining activities. The cyclone brought heavy rainfall and power outages, leading to temporary shutdowns of key infrastructure, including Rio Tinto's iron ore port terminals, bauxite mines, and South32's Gemco manganese mine. Despite these challenges, Rio Tinto has managed to resume operations at most of its port terminals and remains confident in achieving its annual iron ore shipment targets. The company has developed a recovery strategy to address the approximately eight million metric tons of shipments affected by cyclones earlier in the year.
