Record snowfall blankets East Coast during Hernando
In February 2026, the East Coast was struck by a historic blizzard, named Winter Storm Hernando, which delivered record-breaking snowfall to numerous areas. Rhode Island and Massachusetts bore the brunt of the storm, with Kent County, RI, recording nearly 38 inches of snow, and Providence, RI, along with Bristol and Plymouth, MA, each accumulating around 3 feet. The New York tri-state area, including Long Island and parts of New Jersey, saw over 30 inches of snowfall. Central Park in New York City reported nearly 20 inches, marking it as the ninth-largest snowfall in the city's history. Philadelphia received 16 inches, while Boston led major metropolitan areas with nearly 32 inches.
