Two hikers stranded, rescued on Mt. Mansfield
Two young hikers were rescued late Sunday night by Stowe Mountain Rescue after becoming stranded on Mt. Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak. The pair had reached the 4,395-foot summit via the steep Hellbrook Trail but struggled to descend in darkness and cold. Rescuers said they were unprepared, wearing only cotton hoodies and sweatpants, which provide no insulation. Officials urged hikers to carry proper winter gear, including warm layers, spikes, and headlamps, especially with shorter daylight hours and icy trail conditions.
