Residents flee as Typhoon Kalmaegi approaches
Tens of thousands of residents in the eastern Philippines are fleeing to safety as Typhoon Kalmaegi, known locally as Tino, approaches from the Pacific Ocean. The typhoon is expected to make landfall in Eastern Samar, bringing with it winds of up to 120 kph (74 mph) and gusts reaching 150 kph (93 mph). Authorities have issued warnings of torrential rains and storm surges up to 3 meters high.
