Maine’s agricultural sector is facing increasing difficulties due to volatile and severe weather conditions, which are putting a strain on farmers and threatening the state’s food security. The unpredictable weather patterns, characterized by frequent and intense storms, droughts, and unusual temperature swings, are disrupting traditional farming practices and reducing crop yields. In response to these challenges, a proposed $40 million agriculture and forestry bond (LD 2094) aims to support state programs that provide farmers with essential business investments and technical assistance to adapt to weather-related risks.
