Strong winds and unseasonably warm temperatures are creating a dangerous wildfire risk across the Plains. Much of the region is experiencing drought conditions, with dry grasses and brush that are easy to ignite. Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has declared a State of Emergency in response to the escalating threat.
