Evacuation due to high avalanche risk in Iceland
Due to a high risk of avalanches, residents of Seyðisfjörður, Iceland, were evacuated last night by order of the Civil Protection Department. The evacuation, which went into effect at 8:00 p.m. local time, covered zones SE01, SE02, SE04, SE24, and SE26. This safety measure was taken in response to the current severe weather. In addition to the evacuation, Neskaupstaður implemented restrictions, forbidding stays in business premises and restricting access to block NE01. Authorities have advised against traveling during this weather event, noting that while roads within settlements remain open, mountain roads are either closed or are anticipated to close. The evacuation is anticipated to last until midday today, when the weather is predicted to get better.
