Hurricane season's late phase can be threatening
With two months remaining in the Atlantic hurricane season, the United States has experienced relatively minor landfall impacts despite the formation of nine named storms. Hurricane Erin, a Category 5 storm, caused some coastal flooding but remained offshore, sparing the mainland from significant damage. However, weather forecasters are cautioning residents that late-season systems, particularly those originating in the Caribbean, can still pose substantial threats as the season progresses through November.
