NOAA Hurricane Hunters are using their unique skills to help improve winter storm forecasts. Recently, they conducted a special flight off the coast of California, deploying 25 dropsondes. These devices gather critical, real-time atmospheric data that is fed into short-range weather models. The goal is to provide meteorologists with a more precise understanding of upcoming winter weather events.
