A fatal avalanche near Lake Tahoe, California, is under investigation for potential criminal negligence. On Tuesday, a group of 11 skiers and four guides was caught in an avalanche near Castle Peak, about 10 miles north of Lake Tahoe. The incident occurred amidst a storm that brought up to 7 feet of snow and winds of 60 mph. Despite an avalanche watch and morning warnings, the group proceeded with their backcountry ski trip.
