Maui hit hard by Kona-low storms
Maui County is currently facing significant challenges following a series of severe storms. These storms, characterized as Kona-low events, have resulted in widespread damage across the island, prompting the arrival of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) teams to conduct formal damage assessments. Initial estimates reveal that road damage alone has surpassed $40 million, with residential impacts expected to escalate into tens of millions more. The storms have not only crippled infrastructure but also led to severe flooding in low-lying regions, heightened the risk of landslides, and caused structural damage to homes and roads.
