Cyclone causes widespread disruption and significant damage
Cyclone Narelle has struck Queensland, Australia, causing widespread disruption and significant damage. Thousands of homes are without power, and communication lines are down in parts of Cape York, including Arakun. Classified as a category three storm, the cyclone is generating wind gusts up to 140 km/h. Heavy rainfall is expected, with predictions of up to 500mm in some areas, leading to severe flooding. The town of Coen was anticipated to be heavily impacted, but reports indicate no injuries or major infrastructure damage. However, areas north of Coen are experiencing roof damage and fallen trees.
