Padres combat heat with ice cream initiative
During their spring training in Peoria, Arizona, the San Diego Padres creatively addressed the challenge of extreme heat by treating their players to ice cream. With temperatures exceeding 100°F (38°C), field coordinator Vinny Lopez and performance dietician Jaime Wolters organized an 'Old School Ice Cream Bus' to provide a refreshing break. This initiative not only offered immediate relief from the heat, which had peaked at 104°F (40°C), but also served as a morale booster for the team. The ice cream break allowed players to relax, laugh, and momentarily escape the physical demands of their training schedule. By the time the Padres faced the Chicago White Sox, temperatures had slightly cooled to 97°F (36°C), but the cooling effect of the ice cream remained beneficial.
