Severe flooding triggers evacuations, dam failure concerns
Hawaii is currently experiencing its worst flooding in over two decades, prompting immediate evacuation orders and raising alarms about the possible collapse of the Wahiawa dam. The dam is situated 17 miles northwest of Honolulu, exacerbating the emergency. Excessive rainfall has saturated the ground, leading to extensive flooding, especially on Oahu's North Shore, displacing residences and vehicles. Around 5,500 individuals north of Honolulu have been evacuated. Although some floodwaters have receded, the National Weather Service cautions about ongoing flood risks due to expected additional rainfall.
