York County, Maine, has launched a vital dune restoration project to protect its coastline from increasing threats of extreme weather. The initiative aims to rebuild dunes decimated by severe winter storms in 2024, which caused approximately $40 million in public damage and impacted over 200 homes. The project involves a specialized barge equipped with a marine vacuum, which will dredge sand from Wells Harbor and strategically deposit it along Wells Beach.
