Significant acceleration in global warming since 2015
A recent study by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) has identified a significant acceleration in global warming since 2015. The study, published in Geophysical Research Letters, highlights a concerning trend: global temperatures have increased at approximately 0.35°C per decade over the past ten years, compared to just under 0.2°C per decade from 1970 to 2015. This marks the fastest warming observed in any decade since temperature records began in 1880. Researchers adjusted global temperature records to remove natural influences, such as volcanic eruptions and solar activity, allowing them to isolate the impact of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions. This adjustment revealed a statistically significant rise in the warming rate, underscoring the critical role of human activities in driving climate change.
