Midwest faces red flag and high winds
The National Weather Service has issued red flag and high wind warnings across a significant portion of the Midwest, extending from the Canadian border to northern Texas, due to extremely dry conditions. In southwestern Kansas, the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles, winds are expected to be sustained between 20-30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph, and relative humidity dropping to as low as 8%. Central Kansas will experience wind gusts up to 50 mph, with humidity levels around 20%, while central South Dakota could see gusts as high as 65 mph. These conditions pose substantial risks, including the movement of debris, potential property damage, and power outages.
