A significant weather event is unfolding across the eastern United States, placing millions under tornado watches as severe storms sweep through. As of 5:30 p.m. ET on March 11, 2026, over 15 million people were under a tornado watch, including areas in Southeast Texas, Louisiana, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and northern Maryland. The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued warnings for more than 80 million people from Texas to New England, indicating a slight or marginal risk for severe storms. Tornado warnings were issued in Ohio and Pennsylvania shortly after lunchtime, and the storm system has already produced several tornadoes in the central U.S., causing destructive impacts in Illinois and Indiana, along with large hail from Texas to Illinois.
