Tracking The Odds Of Snow For Christmas Across The Country
Tracking The Odds Of Snow For Christmas Across The Country
US · Published Dec 18, 2025
The chances of a white Christmas are lower this year due to above-average temperatures and reduced snow coverage across much of the U.S.
Warmer conditions in the Lower 48 are melting existing snow and preventing new snow formation leading up to Christmas.
While most areas face low chances, some higher elevation regions and isolated areas in the Great Lakes may still see snow.
Limited chances for a white Christmas this year
Despite an active start to December with snow-heavy storms and Arctic blasts across much of the U.S., the outlook for a white Christmas is limited this year. Temperatures are currently running above average, reducing snow coverage across most of the country. While Northern Tier cities like Minneapolis, Marquette, and Burlington may still see some snow, much of the Lower 48 faces warmer conditions leading up to the holiday. Forecast models suggest below-normal chances of a white Christmas compared to historical averages.
