US · Published Jan 21, 2026
Heavy snow and lake-effect conditions are expected in the Midwest and Northeast through Thursday.
Localized lake-effect snow bands could drop 6–12 inches, with some areas exceeding 3 feet in total snowfall.
Arctic air will follow the snow, bringing the season’s coldest temperatures to the region.
Midwest and Northeast brace for more snow
The Midwest and Northeast regions of the United States are bracing for more snow and lake-effect conditions through Thursday, as a series of clipper storms originating from western Canada continue to sweep across the area. The heaviest snowfall is expected to blanket areas from the northern Plains through the Midwest and into the northern Appalachians, while lighter snow flurries may reach as far as the Northeast coast.
