Heavy rain causes deadly landslides in Java
Deadly landslides struck Central Java, Indonesia, last week following a period of heavy rain, resulting in at least 18 confirmed deaths and leaving dozens missing. The disaster unfolded in several locations, with the village of Cibeunying in Cilacap experiencing the most severe impact. A massive landslide buried approximately a dozen homes in Cibeunying, trapping residents under 10 to 25 feet of soil. Rescue teams faced significant challenges in their efforts to locate and recover victims due to the instability of the terrain and the sheer volume of earth that had shifted.
