Southeast Texas is prone to various types of thunderstorms, each presenting unique risks. Single-cell storms are the most common but least severe, typically lasting under an hour with brief heavy rain and lightning. Multi-cell thunderstorms, consisting of multiple cells, can persist longer and produce moderate rain, strong winds, and occasional hail. Squall lines, linear arrangements of storms, can cause widespread damaging winds and heavy rain, sometimes spawning tornadoes.
