Lunar eclipse turns moon reddish, called blood moon
A total lunar eclipse will be visible in Northern California on the morning of March 3, 2026. The eclipse will transform the moon into a reddish color as it passes through the Earth's shadow, a phenomenon often called a 'blood moon.' According to the Redding Record Searchlight, the eclipse will begin at 12:44 AM Pacific Time, peak at 3:33 AM, and end at 6:23 AM. Clear skies are forecast from Redding to Red Bluff, offering optimal viewing conditions. However, clouds are expected to arrive around 5 AM, potentially obscuring the view towards the end of the eclipse. In Yreka, partly cloudy skies may affect visibility. The eclipse can be safely observed with the naked eye, although binoculars or telescopes can enhance the experience.
