Florida indoor advisory due to fine particle pollution
An indoor advisory has been issued for residents in parts of Florida, including Tallahassee, due to unhealthy levels of fine particle pollution (PM2.5). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and its AirNow Map reported a deterioration in air quality as of Monday, March 23, 2026. PM2.5 particles, smaller than 2.5 micrometers, pose significant health risks as they can be deeply inhaled, affecting the lungs and bloodstream. The AirNow Map indicated that the air quality index (AQI) for PM2.5 in affected areas exceeded safe levels, prompting the advisory. Vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions, are urged to limit outdoor activities.
