Aurora Activity May Peak Tonight Following CME Arrival
Aurora Activity May Peak Tonight Following CME Arrival
US · Published Dec 11, 2025
Aurora activity is predicted to peak tonight due to a recent coronal mass ejection.
NOAA and the U.K. Met Office forecast continued auroral activity with potential boosts from smaller CMEs.
Another increase in aurora visibility is possible around December 12 due to a high-speed solar wind stream.
Aurora peak after CME arrival expected tonight
Aurora activity is expected to peak tonight following the arrival of a coronal mass ejection (CME) late on December 10, triggering a moderate (G2) geomagnetic storm. According to NOAA and the U.K. Met Office, G1–G2 auroral activity may persist into December 11, potentially amplified by smaller CMEs. Although conditions may stabilize thereafter, another surge in aurora activity is anticipated around December 12 as Earth nears a high-speed solar wind stream emanating from a coronal hole, expected on December 13.
