Northern lights may appear due to solar activity
Tonight, skywatchers across 21 U.S. states have a rare celestial treat in store! The mesmerizing northern lights, also known as the aurora borealis, may grace the night sky thanks to recent solar activity. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), two coronal mass ejections (CMEs) from the sun are predicted to trigger strong (G3) geomagnetic storms. This heightened solar activity dramatically increases the chances of seeing the aurora borealis much farther south than usual.
