The United States is expected to experience a warmer start to 2026, with the harsh, prolonged cold of early December likely behind most of the country. Meteorologists predict that as the polar vortex strengthens, the southern two-thirds of the U.S. will see above-average temperatures throughout January. February is projected to be particularly warm along the East Coast relative to normal temperatures.
