Powerful earthquake strikes southeastern Alaska region
A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck southeastern Alaska, near the U.S.-Canada border, approximately 56 miles north of Yakutat and 230 miles northeast of Juneau. The earthquake's shallow depth of 6.2 miles amplified its impact, causing widespread shaking across the region. Following the initial quake, over 20 aftershocks were recorded, including two significant tremors measuring 5.3 and 5.0 in magnitude.
