Megafires are becoming an increasing threat to Mediterranean Europe, fueled by severe drought conditions and exacerbated by climate change. The region, characterized by its dense vegetation and hot, dry summers, is particularly vulnerable to large-scale wildfires. Data from the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS) highlights a significant number of wildfire events between 2008 and 2022, ranging from medium to megafires.
